| Day 1 April 25, 2008 By Nick Gebhardt |
With the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup off and running in Punta Gorda, Florida, pro anglers fielded three different questions before heading out for their day on the water.
The three questions asked were as followed:
1. What do you think will be the heaviest bag today? 2. How will this low tide coming in all day affect the bite? 3. What’s something new you’ve learned in pre-fishing for this tournament? |
Jason Keating
St. Augustine, Florida
Heaviest bag? “I’d say a 14.02 pound stringer.”
Tidal affect? “It will be a real patient bite—slow, slower and slower.”
New insight? “If you screw up just one time out here, you’ll probably be going to the house.”

Erik Rue
Lake Charles, Louisiana
Heaviest bag? “Pushing 15 pounds and that traditionally wouldn’t happen here.”
Tidal affect? “The fish on the dead-end low tide are harder to catch.”
New insight? “It seems like it’s easier to catch them when the waters up, even at the highest point.”

Charlie Thomason
Covington, Louisiana
Heaviest bag? “I’ll say 14 and a half, and there won’t be as many zeroes as normal.”
Tidal affect? “I don’t think the tides will be as big an issue as they could be.”
New insight? “I’ve learned to slow down here because eventually it works.”

Mike Del Duca
Naples, Florida
Heaviest bag? “Somebody’s going to come in with 14 pounds.”
Tidal affect? “There are a lot of tournaments going on in Charlotte Harbor right now and that’s a bigger factor.”
New insight? “There’s not enough quality fish and a lot of guys will try to get on some schools.”
