PENSACOLA, Fla. – During Day One’s launch at the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship, a small crowd of anglers and press assembled before Andrew Bostick and Mark Sepe’s boat.
Just like shrimp attracting a school of redfish, a shiny, new 10-foot extension ladder strapped to their deck triggered a barrage of jokes and comments.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Sweat glistened from his forehead as he rested at the front desk. His muscles had grown tired, aching from a full day's work already. And it was only 5:30 AM.
For Michael, the night shift manager at the Marriot Courtyard, this Saturday morning was unlike any Saturday morning he'd ever seen. A crowd of 60 Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship anglers had converged on his hotel lobby 30 minutes beforehand.
Pensacola, Fla. - Clearly, Mother Nature wanted to see a second day of fishing during the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship. Maybe the thoughts and prayers offered up during tournament director Bob Sealy’s late night Weather Channel vigils could have played a role, too.
Regardless of the cause, Tropical Depression 10 raced across the Florida Panhandle late Friday night and had all but moved west of Pensacola by 7 a.m. on Saturday morning.
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Looks can sure be deceiving. And during Day Two's launch of the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship, perception seemed to be the reality yet again. Radar screens appeared to show remnants of the tropical depression that had swept through Pensacola still hammering the area, winds felt as if they were blowing even stronger and the ride out of Pensacola Bay was outright brutal.
Jeff Pope and partner Brandon Buckner took advantage of Day Two's improved conditions to climb into the driver's seat heading into Sunday's final. Their 10.75-pound day gave them a tournament-leading 24.35-pound total. Slipping into second place, Andrew Bostick and Mark Sepe experienced a tougher bite, but still managed to boat two fish weighing 9.12 pounds.
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Saturday night, before the final day of the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship, anglers prepared differently. For each team, the variety of pre-game activities echoed the assortment of techniques and wide-ranging fishing locations that propelled them into this Sunday final. Regardless of how each team spent their night, winning the Redfish Cup Championship proved to be on everyone’s mind.
Brett Phillips and Mike Patterson, who launched into fourth place after Day Two, took it easy last night. With total weights now zeroed for the Sunday final, both men knew the competition would require a good night’s sleep.
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Perhaps it was fitting that the final weigh-in of the 2007 Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship wedged itself between periods of monsoon-like rains. After all, a tropical depression, coastal flood watch and small craft advisory for the majority of the tournament had thrust competitors into a natural game of tag throughout the previous two days.
And on Sunday, Andrew Bostick and Mark Sepe accepted Mother Nature’s celebratory Gatorade bath with open arms. These Redfish Cup champions proved to the rain-soaked crowd that they were winners.
