PORT ARTHUR, Tex – Never doubt that redfishing, even at the highest competitive level of the sport, can’t be a family activity.
Mike Frenette and his son Michael of Marrero, La., grabbed the first day lead at the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup tournament at Port Arthur, Texas with 16.87 pounds, but following close behind were Keith and John Hartsell of Pearland, Texas, another father/son duo who put 16.51 pounds on the scales.
PORT ARTHUR, Tex – Robert Scherer and Blaien Friermood brought in two redfish weighing 15.79 pounds to take over the lead in the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Western Division final at Port Arthur as standings in the top five changed dramatically after two of yesterday’s top teams failed to weigh in fish.
With a two-day total of 31.14 pounds, they headline a group of redfish pros separated by less than two pounds who now have their weights set back to zero for a one-day shoot out for the $40,000 first prize.
Tim Young and Jason Catchings brought two redfish weighing 15.84 pounds to the scales Sunday to capture the final event in the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Western Division in Port Arthur. With bonus sponsor money, the victory was worth $70,000 to the two veteran Texas coastal fishing guides.
The father/son team of Keith and John Hartsell finished second with 13.06, and they were followed by brothers Charlie and Jack Barton with 11.77; David Christian and Charlie Paranoski with 7.73; and Robert Scherer and Blaien Friermood with 4.25 pounds.
